In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first on The Daily Telegraph's online list of the world's "100 most beautiful cars" of all time.

The E-Type's powerplant was the same block already used in the XK: a powerful 3.8-liter inline six engine designed during WWII, featuring a double overhead camshaft, cast iron block and cylinder head. Aluminum, powered by three carburettors and a 9.0: 1 compression ratio, produced 265 hp (269 hp, 198 kW) at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 283 lb ·ft (384 N ·m) at 4,000 rpm, which allowed it to reach 150 mph (241 km / h), with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds.
